S1000D is a versatile international specification for technical documentation applicable to any complex product or system. Initially developed for the aerospace and defence sectors, it structures complex information — like maintenance manuals for aircraft or ships — into modular, database-driven components instead of static pages. This allows for easier updates, reuse of information, and customised delivery of technical data.
